Secondary Summer Programs: Important Information

The Toronto District School Board’s secondary summer school program begins Tuesday, July 5th and runs until Friday, July 29th,2011. For details about registration, check out the previous blog ( or visit the TDSB site: Grade 9 and 10 students attending summer school will do so at a summer school in a designated site assigned in their day school. It is important that students discuss and organize their summer school plans with the guidance department at their schools – day school approval is necessary for enrolment.

Students taking courses in the summer are expected to be in class from 8:45- 11:45. Following a lunch break, classes resume at 12:30 and run until 3:30 in the afternoon. Attendance at all classes is mandatory and students who miss the equivalent of three classes will be withdrawn from the program, as they will not be able to complete the required number of instructional hours. So, if you were planning on taking a family vacation or a few days off, you better wait for August!

The cost of enrolment for the secondary summer school program is $20 (full credit) and should be paid in cash on the second day of classes. Remedial and Transfer courses cost $10.Textbooks for all courses are provided. As with day school programs, students are expected to take care of their loaned books and return them prior to the end of the course. If a student loses or damages a textbook,  he or she will have to pay the full replacement cost.

If you’re planning on attending summer school this year, keep in mind that registration opens in mid-April and closes on June 3rd, 2011.
